He Knows Your Name

Isaiah 43:1-2 ESV, “….Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine. When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”

Fear not! God is with you through it all. He has promised to never leave your side. He will not allow you to be overtaken by evil when you keep your hand in His. Every tribulation that you must endure, He will strengthen you to do so. In your weakness, His strength is made perfect. He is upright and just in all His ways. His wisdom far surpasses our limited understanding.

He loves you with an everlasting love and He will never fail you. No matter what you are going through, He is still God and He knows your name.

Alive And Powerful

Hebrews 4:12 NLT, “For the word of God is alive and powerful. It is sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword, cutting between soul and spirit, between joint and marrow. It exposes our innermost thoughts and desires.”

We have our way of thinking and God has His. As we grow in the knowledge of His Word, we should desire to abandon our own agenda, and our own way of thinking and follow His. His Word transforms us. It causes us to see things through His eyes and understand His perspective. His Word is alive and powerful. It exposes deception and speaks everlasting truth.

The Holy Spirit is always working to bring us into truth. As He refines our hearts, we must be willing to obey His instructions and make the necessary changes. Growing in Christ, means we will outgrow sinful ways and relationships that are not of Him. In order to accomplish what He wants us to accomplish, we must let go of what is not pleasing to Him, no matter how uncomfortable letting go may be.

Sometimes the things we are doing may not be sinful. They may be good things, but they are still not God’s plan for us. The ”good” things and people that seem harmless, can end up being the biggest hindrances in our walk with God. So we must let them go and move on. Otherwise we will not walk in our God given purpose.

God is always trying to take us to higher places in Him. But when He calls us, we must be willing to trust Him, take action and go.

Jesus Will Give You Strength

Philippians 4:13 (NLT), “For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.”

There are many things and people that will attempt to distract us as we try to follow God’s will for our lives. But we must stay focused on Jesus. He will never leave us, forsake us, or fail us. Everything we need is found in Him.

Jesus gives us strength to fulfill the purpose He has for us. He gives us strength to stay on the narrow path that leads to life. His strength helps us to endure the obstacles that come against us and try to steal our peace of mind.

On days where we feel like giving up, we can look to Jesus and find the hope we need to keep going. When we feel tired and weak, it’s His Spirit who gives us the power to stay strong. There is no weight so heavy that the strength of Jesus cannot carry it. Cast your burdens on the Lord Jesus, because He cares for you.

Dear Father,

Thank you for the strength we have through your Son Jesus Christ. Thank you for watching over us and helping us to live for you. When we are weak, You are strong. Help us not to fall prey to the ways of this world. Help us to keep our hearts pure, and to keep our eyes fixed on You.

In the name of Jesus. Amen.

God’s Word Will Stand Forever

Isaiah 40:8 ESV, “The grass withers, the flower fades, but the word of our God will stand forever.”

As I reflect on my own life, there were many times where I didn’t have a right understanding of God’s Word, so I wasn’t living like I should have been. There were also times when I knew what God’s Word said, but still chose to be disobedient and do what I wanted to do. However regardless of me, I’m thankful that God’s Word never changed. It remained the same throughout my lack of understanding and disobedience. It was me that needed to change, by making a decision to obey His Word.

The fact that God’s Word will stand forever, is the reason we can place our hope in Him. It brings such joy to know His Word will always stand. He patiently waits for us to seek Him and turn from our sinful ways. As we seek Him, we will become more like Jesus and have a better understanding of His will for our lives.

God’s Way Is perfect, His Word is flawless…

Psalm 18:30 NIV, “As for God, his way is perfect: The LORD’s word is flawless; he shields all who take refuge in him.”

We can trust God, and His Word. He will lead us down the right path. I’m thankful the Holy Spirit doesn’t give up on us. He is patient as we grow in godliness. But diligently seeking God is the part we are responsible for. When we ask Him to, He will strengthen us to seek Him daily.

So Thankful For Thy Truth

Psalm 119:142 (KJV), “Thy righteousness is an everlasting righteousness, and thy law is the truth.”

I’m so thankful for the truth of God’s Word, because His Word is a firm foundation. I’m also thankful for the wisdom and instruction found in His Word.

Nowadays many are in search of truth. Truth has become whatever people want it to be, instead of what God says it is. God’s truth does not change. He does not “adjust” His truth to please mankind. He does not “relax” His standards so that we can live by our feelings. Feelings change, but God’s truth always remains the same.

In order to stay connected to truth, we must stay connected to God and His Word. The Holy Spirit will help us to understand God’s Word, and He will empower us to apply what we learn to our lives. Jesus Christ died and rose so that we could be free to walk in Truth.

Father,

Thank you for Your Truth. Help us to walk in Your Truth daily. Help us not to be deceived by the lies of the enemy. Help us not to succumb to the many false teachings that are being taught today. When we are tempted to compromise Your Truth, so we can please ourselves or other people, give us the will to stand strong. Thank you for guiding us into all truth by Your Spirit.

In the name of Jesus. Amen.

Fruit of the Spirit: SELF-CONTROL

Galatians 5:22-23(NLT), “But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. There is no law against these things!

SELF-CONTROL. We can control ourselves through the power of God’s Spirit working in us. We can say no to our old ways and yes to the ways of Christ.

Romans 6:6(NIV),“For we know that our old self was crucified with him so that the body ruled by sin might be done away with, that we should no longer be slaves to sin.”

Although we have a new nature in Christ, we must help it to grow by filling our hearts with God’s Word so that we will not fall into sin (Psalm 119:11). We have to make our growth in Him a priority. Whatever we feed the most, will grow the most. If we feed our flesh more than our spirit, it will be more difficult for us to follow God’s ways and practice self-control.

Through The Holy Spirit, we can control our thoughts, words, and actions. When we stop and think about it, we begin to realize just how much we have to practice self-control on a daily basis. I’m sure we all have areas where we need to discipline ourselves, and be more self controlled. I know for me, trying to make sure I am honoring God with my eating habits takes self-control. It’s easier for me to eat unhealthy foods than it is for me to avoid them and “eat responsibly.”

I’m glad we have the attribute of self-control. We can stand firm against the things that try and get us to go against God’s will for our lives.

1 Peter 5:8 (NHEB),“Be sober and self-controlled. Be watchful. Your adversary the devil, walks around like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

***Please share your thoughts about your journey with self-control in the comments.
