Are you trustworthy?

Proverbs 11:13 NIV, “A gossip betrays a confidence, but a trustworthy person keeps a secret.”

It’s a blessing when God places trustworthy people in our lives who can keep a secret. Many individuals have been hurt because of people who betrayed them by gossiping. Gossip ruins reputations and destroys relationships. As children of God, one of our goals should be to love and protect people. Gossip does neither.

Before we “share information”, we should take time to think before we speak, and consider our motives for sharing the information with others. We should also consider how our sharing will affect all of those involved, and even more importantly, we should pray regularly to ask God for strength to stay away from gossip and other ungodly conversations.

May God help us all to be trustworthy people who He can depend on to show His love to others, and help fulfill His purposes here on Earth.

  6. Dawn , thank you for writing this. Yes, gossip is serious sin, and listening to gossip is also a serious sin.

    As we develop discernment, we often know which people are chronic gossips. May the Lord help us to stay away from their company.
    However, we would we doing them a tremendous act of love by telling them that we are choosing not to associate with them because, in the end, both gossiping and listening to gossip defile us.

    Perhaps then they would stop gossiping about others.
    Gossiping appeals to our frail, fallen nature, but through God’s grace, and the power of the Holy Spirit, the Lord will help us to overcome this sin. 🤗

  15. It is important to establish a reputation of trust. When something personal is mentioned it should not be shared with others, and gossip should be avoided. It goes back to the saying if you can’t say anything nice, don’t say anything at all. Have a wonderful week Dawn! 🌼🦋💗

  16. Gossiping is one of the little sins that so easily beset us and as you said, it can do great damage. May God help us to control our tongue.

    Also, thank you for writing that great review on my book. I also wrote a review on your book and will be purchasing the others. The reason for the delay is that Amazon would not allow me to write a review after reading your book on kindle. I had to make a purchase on Amazon, which I did yesterday. I guess it is because I live outside the USA. I am not sure. I shared your book and the review on my Facebook. Have a blessed weekend.

  17. As followers of Christ, w’re required to show love (John 13:34,35) and gossip is the complete opposite. We find more joy encouraging and uplifting others.
    “Finally, brothers, whatever things are true, whatever things are of serious concern, whatever things are righteous, whatever things are chaste, whatever things are lovable, whatever things are well-spoken-of, whatever things are virtuous, and whatever things are praiseworthy, continue considering these things.” – Philippians 4:8
