A Clean Heart

Psalm 51:10 ESV, “Create in me a clean heart, O God, and renew a right spirit within me.”

When we give our hearts to Jesus, the Bible says that we become a new creation (2 Corinthians 5:17 NIV, “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here!”). The Lord takes away our heart of stone and gives us a heart of flesh (Ezekiel 36:26). He also gives us His Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit comes to live in us. He is our Helper who convicts us of sin and empowers us to live for Jesus.

Conviction is what brings us to repentance, and repentance will keep our hearts clean before God. I ask God often to show me any sinful ways that I have, so that I can repent and turn from my sin. Sin separates us from God. But repentance draws us closer to Him. The cleaner our heart is, the more we can become like Jesus. A clean heart keeps us in a place of humility and submission before God.

This is why, I love the Holy Spirit so much. He is the third Person of the Trinity who works in us to keep our hearts clean, and lead us into a deeper relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. He is the One who reveals truth to us so that we are not deceived by the enemy’s lies.

About 10 years ago, I read a really good book called, The Person and Work of The Holy Spirit by R.A. Torrey. He was an evangelist, pastor, educator, and writer who lived from 1856-1928. His book is one of the best books I have ever read. I developed a deeper understanding of who the Holy Spirit is and what He does for us.

John 14:16-17 NIV, “And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever–the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you.”

May God’s Spirit continue to work in you to bring you into a deeper relationship with our Lord Jesus Christ. Have a blessed weekend. ❤️

  1. For the past few weeks, I have been focusing on my heart. I was prompted to look at my heart, as well as the heart of others. I had to ask God to purify my heart, so I can be more like Jesus. The Holy Spirit is working and will continue to work in us, as long as we surrender our hearts to Him. Thank you so much for this beautiful piece of writing. God bless you my sister!

    1. Thanks sister Sally! That is a great point you made..a clean heart makes our prayers more effective. We can hear God more clearly and our prayers will be more in line with His will. Thanks for bringing that up! ❤️

  2. Lord, we surrender today and ask that You would create in us clean hearts. Rid us from every sin that so easily beset us and help us to run this race as You have commanded us to. Thank You for Your daughter Dawn. Bless her Father, keep her, grant her courage to continually speak the truth. Bring her deeper into Your love and reassure her with the promise that You care deeply for her. Help her not to worry, not to fret, but to trust You with all her cares. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

  3. I’m so thankful for the gift of Holy Spirit. He is above and beyond! Jesus paid the price which would have been enough, but the Father out of His great love for us, gave us the gift of Himself as counselor, comforter, advocate, and guide. Dawn, thanks for writing about Him, for He stirs my joy! ♥
