Proverbs 13:3 NLT, “Those who control their tongue will have a long life; opening your mouth can ruin everything.“
There is so much good that comes from choosing to guard our tongues. This can be easier or harder depending on personality and temperament. But regardless of, it is wise to control your tongue. It often takes wisdom to know when to speak and when not to. And when we do speak, it takes wisdom to know what and what not to say. The good news is that we can ask God for help.

The average person, probably does not set out to ruin everything. However, this verse warns us that ruining everything is possible when the tongue is not under control. The tongue is a powerful weapon. The words we speak can hurt or bring healing; they can bring death or life (Proverbs 18:21).
As I mentioned, God is willing to help us discipline our tongues. The Holy Spirit will guide us and impart the wisdom we need to use our tongues for good. And it’s a blessing that doing so can lead to a longer life.

A good point Dawn our tongue can be a terrible weapon because it can hurt someone deeply and you can’t take your words back and it can be something that is very they will always remember
Blessings

You’re so right. Words hurt and cannot be taken back. And they do linger in a person’s memory. Sometimes it takes years to heal from harsh words. Blessings Eileen! Thanks!

Such a great reminder, Dawn. I love the biblical messages about watching our words (and our thoughts). I feel it can be all too easy to get into wrong thinking, and as a result having careless words come out of our mouths. It can be difficult to change that if we have never really tried before. But I love your reminder that the Lord can help us. Thank you for this Dawn. I needed the reminder to choose thoughts and words of faith, not defeat. Have a blessed week!

You’re welcome, Bridget. I love these types of verses too. They challenge us to think of others by thinking about our words. And to choose thoughts and words of faith, like you mentioned. Blessings upon your week, too!

One of the most difficult things to control. It is easy to say something negative that can tear down many encouraging words. Leaning on the Spirit to lead and guide, to give wisdom as needed in the use of our words. Thank you for this reminder, Dawn 💙

I like this version that tells us that controlling our tongue will lead to long life. Even in the devils kingdom this lesson is utilized. But in God’s kingdom we recognize that God will give us wisdom to know when to speak and the Holy Spirit will teach us what to say. Thanks for sharing this encouraging word. God bless you.
