Love Life and See Good Days

1 Peter 3:10-11 ESV For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit;  let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it.”

These are wise words that help lead us to good days and a life we can enjoy. It challenges us to keep a guard over our tongues, turn from evil, do good, and to seek and pursue peace. Since our words and actions have an impact, asking God to help us to be mindful in these areas and being sure to talk to Him about our specific struggles will invite Him in to help us.

We are often ready to get to the next season of life. Especially when we are going through something difficult. However, learning as much as we can right where God has us, will benefit us now and when we enter the next season of life. And the wisdom found in these verses to not indulge in harmful words and evil actions will help us as we go through the learning process.

We often cannot fully perceive what we are missing out on until we are willing to trust God and obey what He is telling us to do. Then our obedience leads to blessings and better understanding.

The final words of these verses say to seek peace and pursue it. I have found that peace brings clarity and the ability to better hear God’s voice and follow His leading. We serve a God who is willing to give us peace in exchange for our worries; so cast your worries on Him today because he cares for you (Philippians 4:6-7; 1 Peter 5:7).

  1. We need peace in our lives, especially during this season. The Lord has granted peace and good will through the birth of Jesus, and it is now up to us to seek and pursue peace. Thanks for sharing this powerful reminder.

  2. ‘We are often ready to get to the next season of life. Especially when we are going through something difficult. However, learning as much as we can right where God has us, will benefit us now and when we enter the next season of life’ – so very true. I too have often found myself wishing and looking ahead but have to remind myself that even though I am not enjoying this particular season, if I only keep looking ahead I might miss what God is teaching me now. And yes, when we seek peace, we hear God more clearly. Blessings Dawn, have a great week ahead.

    1. Thanks Willie. I’m glad you are grateful for the reminder. Life gives us a lot of responsibilities but it helps when we can do these things that help make our lives easier, especially giving our worries to God. He is willing to supply our needs. I hope you have a wonderful week. Blessings!

  4. Being aware of what we think, do, and speak, and actually realizing that’s what’s shaping our current states is so vital. For almost 2 days, I’ve had lots of bad self viewing thoughts, like I am not living up my potential, I think due to the fact I wasn’t feeling okay and sick for a couple of days, now it’s like I’ve got a pile of things I need accomplishing the thought of it makes me exhausted!! This is a great reminder to cast my worries to him and just know that this very moment where I’m back to my good health is much more valuable and essential, all other things aren’t that important. I needed this message, Dawn, sincerely speaking.. God bless you.

    1. I’m glad you found the message helpful. Make sure you’re being kind to yourself. You’ll get caught up with your tasks. Take your time. I’ve had to tell myself the same thing lately. We tend to focus on all we need to do but it’s important to listen to our bodies and rest when needed. We must give ourselves grace. I’ve been studying for a work related certification and it’s been tough. I haven’t passed yet so failing was even tougher. But I’m learning to rest when needed and be kind to myself too. I hope you have a wonderful week. God bless you too.

  5. We often want to get to the other side of difficulty quickly, but in Psalm 23, it says that even though I walk through the darkest valley, I will fear no evil. The key word being THROUGH. God is with us through the difficulty, in the midst of it, and He will see us through it, in His perfect timing. But, it is important to take the time to learn the lessons God is trying to teach us while we are waiting to get through it. God can definitely give us peace in the midst of these difficult circumstances.

    1. Psalm 23 has become one of my go to sections of scripture lately. It brings comfort to know God is with us as we go through the difficulties and learn from them. Thank you for sharing these encouraging words.

      1. I’m reading Don’t Give the Enemy a Seat at Your Table by Louie Giglio which is based on Psalm 23 and I’m using an app to try to memorize all of Psalm 23.

I’m glad that I found your blog! It’s very inspiring and encouraging!

      2. Sounds like a good book! Psalm 23 is great to memorize. I read a book not too long ago called A Shepherd Looks at Psalm 23 by W. Phillip Keller. It really helped me to understand what Shepherd’s do and therefore better understand what Jesus does for us. Thanks so much, I am glad you have found inspiration and encouragement here.

  6. Peace, peace, peace! What we hear on our daily basis is what we end up practicing so if we speak peace and harmony then that’s what we will practice. Good people let’s learn to watch what we say to people because our mouths have ability to fix or cause destruction.
