Do You Have An Answer?

1 Peter 3:15-16 NIV, “15 But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. 16 But do this with gentleness and respect, keeping a clear conscience, so that those who speak maliciously against your good behavior in Christ may be ashamed of their slander.”

Recently while attending a small Bible study group, the speaker asked the question, “What keeps you committed to Christ?” For me, it was a very timely question because I had been thinking about this just a few days earlier.

These verses in 1 Peter tell us to be prepared to answer this question. We never know when we will be given the opportunity to share with someone the reason we have chosen to put our hope in Jesus Christ.

When it was my turn to answer the question, and share about something that keeps me committed to Christ, I said, “He always sees and He always hears.”

I love that Jesus is the God who always sees me. He is always aware of me and what I am going through. Although I am blessed to have people who care about me, people cannot always see what He can. I am never out of His sight. He understands me and my circumstances completely.

Secondly, I love that Jesus is the God who always hears me. I can pray at anytime and He will hear me. No appointment needed. He is always available. He does not slumber or sleep.

Psalm 121:3-5 NLT, “3 He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will not slumber. 4 Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps. 5 The Lord himself watches over you! The Lord stands beside you as your protective shade.”

I was glad the Bible study leader asked us this question. I was reminded to always be ready to give others an answer for the hope Jesus gives me and why I choose to stay committed to Him. It could be a non-Christian asking us about our faith in Christ or even another Christian who needs encouragement. Whatever the case, we should be ready.

I could use some encouragement and I am sure others can too, so I am asking you to please share in the comments, “What keeps you committed to Christ?”

  1. Really good question and as you said it is something we should have ready to share with others. For me it is knowing that He is always with me and also as you said He sees and He hears- they bring me so much comfort and strength, without which I know not how I can go on in this life.

    1. Amen. His continuous presence with us is amazing. We are never alone. I don’t know how I would manage either if He didn’t give Himself to us like He does. Thanks for sharing Manu.

  2. For while I was yet a sinner, Christ died for me! Nothing I ever do catching Him off guard or surprises Him. He knows me thoroughly and yet loves me still! Loves me to the point of giving all to redeem me! So, His love for us! Additionally, He is truth and He is reality. Nothing exists without Him nor does anything have it’s full meaning apart from Him.

Amen! Thank you for the post.

    1. Amen! So many wonderful things you listed about our Savior. The fact that He is truth is something we must really cling to nowadays with so much deception in the world. You’re welcome and Thanks for sharing Joshua!

  3. God is always near me. When I need Him, He holds my right hand, and I do not fear, for He is with me. Also, I can reach out to Him in prayer at any time or place, and He hears me. A good question, Dawn! 💖🌺

  4. This is an excellent and timely question because we are living in a time where we have so many distractions and temptations to weaken our faith. When I think about this question, I realize those are the things (problems and trials) that keep me committed to God. I simply do not know how anyone can survive this world without the Lord by your side. Thanks for sharing this encouraging word.

    1. Great point Beverley. The problems and trials do keep us committed. The old hymn says we’re prone to wander, prone to leave the God we love. But the hardships of this world definitely draw you closer to the Lord. It’s amazing how our faith grows in difficult times, even though it’s no fun to go through them. You’re welcome.

  5. Thank you for making me think about this. I did not have a ready answer, until pondering your post. Two things come to mind – Jesus paid the ultimate price for my sins. A price I could never pay on my own. That alone makes me want to live for Him, every day. But also, knowing that the Lord is trustworthy. No matter what we face in life, He can be trusted through it all. He is my anchor. Thank you for this, Dawn. And I really loved the verses from the Psalms that you shared. Have a blessed week. ♥️

  6. Yes! We must have an answer. I love this. For me, I have so many reasons, but in short, I would have to say his patience. He has been so very patient with me, even when I didn’t get things right. His patience is not like any other. He takes joy when we succeed. But, more importantly, when we fail, he’s right there to pick us up and encourage us to try again. What a good, good father!
