God Hears Your Cry

Psalm 40:1-2, ”I waited patiently for the LORD; he turned to me and heard my cry. He lifted me out of the slimy pit, out of the mud and mire; he set my feet on a rock and gave me a firm place to stand.”

There is so much encouragement in these verses. First, we are told to wait patiently. Of course waiting is not always easy, especially when we feel we need answers right away. However, God is never late. When He requires us to wait, we can rest knowing He will do what is best for us at the right time.

Second, God hears our cries for help. He not only hears, but he actually turns to us. We serve a God of compassion, who understands our worries and needs. It’s amazing that He cares enough to turn to us and listen to us.

Third, he lifts us up from the pit and sets us on a firm foundation. The pit is a place of hurt, pain, sorrow, depression, the list can go on. But God lifts us up to a place of joy, purpose, peace, and abundance. And of course the list of good things in Jesus go on and on, even into eternity, because He is good. Look up to the God who will lift you up.

1 Corinthians chapter 2 verse 9 tells us, no eye has seen and no ear has heard and no mind has imagined, what God has in store for those who love him. Never forget, God hears your cry.

  1. I agree, there is a lot of comfort in these verses. May we remain thankful to know that God is working on our behalf, even when we don’t see it yet. He is always there for us and hears when we cry out to Him. And He lovingly lifts us up. Thanks so much for this encouragement. Beautiful thoughts to start the week! God bless you! 🦋

  2. Amen . He hears us, it gives me so much comfort and confidence that the Lord hears our cries. And that he will lift us up out of that pit even if we have to wait as his timing and reasoning is perfect for us. Thank you Dawn for this encouragement today. Have a good day.

  3. Thank you Dawn for your words, I know that God heard my cries this morning, as I sat quietly in my bed in prayer because of the fact I was abuse by my husband for thirty years we are married that long as well as he has abuse my daughters especially my oldest ( I won’t say all the facts, he did it in a way no father should ever) He is into porn, many women and yes I have filed for divorce. As I cried out to our Lord I know he heard my heart in trying to understand it all., he has moved on with another woman.

  4. You’ve highlighted wonderful insights from this scripture passage, Dawn. When God deems right, he does indeed lift us out of the mud and mire that this life can become. He does set us on the rock of stability, a symbol of who he is: our compassionate, all-wise, powerful, just, and righteous Heavenly Father. With you I celebrate a God who cares so very much for his children!
