Take Nothing For Granted

Several weeks ago, I was in the bank, (which I rarely go inside the bank), and witnessed the excitement of a teen girl cashing her first paycheck. When she got the cash in her hand, she proudly and excitedly exclaimed, “I did it, my first paycheck!” It reminded me how we should not take anything for granted in life. Something that we may have been doing for years, such as working and getting a paycheck, is a blessing from the Lord. Her excitement was a reminder to always be thankful for the blessings we receive, no matter how big or how small.

We live in an electronic society and it is rare nowadays to even have a paper paycheck in our hands. But seeing and hearing that teen girl that day brought smiles to all of us who were waiting behind her in line. I pray the reality of God’s blessings in your life, would fill your heart with joy and bring a smile to your face today.

  1. Such a good reminder Dawn. I do think we take these blessings for granted. Reading this made me think and realise that I should be more intentionally grateful for these blessings. We will never realise till it is taken away.

  2. What a sweet story! And I love your point. We have so many blessings in our lives, that we often overlook because they have always been there. Sometimes I even think about the appliances we have in our homes that were not available 100 years ago. May we live in awe and wonder at the blessings God bestows upon us each day. Thanks so much for this encouraging post, Dawn!

    1. You’re welcome! Oh yes, appliances are a blessing. My mom grew up in the country and they were minus many conveniences like refrigerators and indoor plumbing.

  3. Reading your story brought back memories of going “into” the bank as a teenager to deposit my paycheck (close to $40😂) or make my car payment ($38😂) leaving me a few dollars to buy gas for $.25 a gallon🤣!

  4. Wow! It reminds me of how I felt when I received my first pay check. I did not shout like her. I just tucked it discretely in my bag (I was in Jamaica at the time so I had to be careful) 🙂. I was also excited when I bought my first bed. Great reminder of how we ought to be excited about the goodness of God. Thanks, Dawn. I hope this week will bring you lots of pleasant and sweet excitement 😊

  5. I am employed but I know how the work environment can be negative at times. As Christians let us always remember the days we prayed for the job we have now when that negativity comes knocking. It’s a blessing to receive a paycheck every month. Thanks for sharing 😊
