1 John 4:1 (NLT), ”Dear friends, do not believe everyone who claims to speak by the Spirit. You must test them to see if the spirit they have comes from God. For there are many false prophets in the world.”
This verse is a reminder of the importance of knowing God for ourselves. Developing our relationship with Him allows us to better understand His heart and the desires He has for our individual lives and the world around us. When we have an intimate relationship with Him, it will keep us from being deceived by the many voices that attempt to speak into our lives, claiming to know the truth and have a prophecy from God. Jesus said my sheep know my voice, and the voice of strangers they do not obey (John 10:4-5). Everything we hear and do should be in line with God’s Word, our final authority.

Knowing God for yourself, and living by His Holy Spirit, not by the voice of man, is what will bring peace and order to our lives. God is not the author of confusion, but of peace; love and faithfulness are shown in all He does (1 Corinthians 14:33; Psalm 89:14).
I pray the Lord will give us discernment to know His voice and recognize His truth as we surrender our lives to Him daily.
A very powerful reminder Dawn as there are many false teachers out there right now spewing false doctrines.

A very important and necessary reminder to know His word and seek a relationship with Him ourselves because only then will we be aware of false teaching.

I agreed with you. The word of God is the barometer for testing the validity of prophecies.

Yes, a lot of noise, a lot of info, a lot of anxiety out there right now. I think we all probably need to turn it off and turn into the Lord, His Word, and guidance from the Holy Spirit. It’s a confusing time. But the Lord’s Word holds true.

We need to be like the Bereans in Acts 17-
“Now the Berean Jews were of more noble character than those in Thessalonica, for they received the message with great eagerness and examined the Scriptures every day to see if what Paul said was true” and search to make sure a teaching is biblical.

Yes! The Bereans set a great example for us. Thanks for those verses.

Hi Dawn, It is important to be still and listen for God’s direction and for the Holy Spirit’s guidance. Also, we need to use discernment for there are a lot of ruthless wolves (false prophets) masquerading in sheep’s clothing. 💗🌟🌺

Perfect explanation, where there is confusion our God does not exist. There are several teachings that are not from God, we compare the teachings against the Word of God.

Dawn, your discussion is a very timely reminder. At our times, mankind attempts to stir together as much darkness and confusion as possible. We can always count on the truth of God’s Word.
