Stay Alert, Stay Alive

1 Peter 5:8 NLT, “Stay alert! Watch out for your great enemy, the devil. He prowls around like a roaring lion, looking for someone to devour.”

Several years ago, I was living in an apartment where the landlord refused to do pest control. So I called a pest control company and had it done myself. I remember before the pest control technician left, he said that any bugs I saw from now on, would be dead and on their backs. It was true, every bug I saw after he exterminated was dead and on their backs.

I recently thought about this, and I realized it works the same way for us in our walk with Christ. If we are properly prepared when the enemy comes against us with his evil tricks, he will end up defeated, like those bugs. We must take responsibility to ensure spiritual readiness so that we can win the spiritual battles we face.

In Christ we are more than conquerors, however we must do our part by acknowledging Him in all of our ways. We must also put on the whole armor of God so that we can stand firm in our faith and be victorious against the enemy of our souls.

I remember back when I was in the army, one of the phrases they taught us was, “Stay alert, stay alive!” We must stay alert so we don’t fall prey to the sinfulness and deception that is all around us. Blessings to you as you continue on your journey of trusting in the Lord with all of your heart. Let’s continue to pray for and encourage one another in our walk with Jesus.

  1. Stay alert, stay alive – I like that. True that we have to stay alert to the enemy’s attacks or else we will be caught unawares.
Our in the full armour if God – it is up to us to put it on. We have to always remember that.
    Blessings 😊💙

  2. Wow, you were in the army? That must have been quite an experience. I wouldn’t survive the day. Lol. I wouldn’t survive without the Lord, either, so I’m thankful for the reminder to abide in Him, and be alert. ☺ Thanks, Dawn.

      1. I admired the military people and thought it would be a good thing to do. I grew up in Virginia so there are a lot of military bases in the area.

  3. The full armor of God is our protection, we should cover ourselves with it daily, and walk in His Word. You are right we must be alert and put our faith in God. Dawn, I enjoyed your visual comparisons and guiding words!

  4. We should always watch, pray and adhere to the teaching’s of the Word. Everyday we are faced with temptations from the devil. Satan makes uses of our preferences through the lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and the pride of life (1 John 2:16). Therefore, we must guard the Word of God in our hearts, keep watchful of the devil and keep praying, rely on the Holy Spirit and look to God in all things.

Thank you for your service Dawn!

  5. This is such a great post. The enemy and his minions may come at us but with the Armor of God on us, they will drop dead, like dirty roaches they are. Thanks for this today and thank you for your service to our country. Love and prayers from Wisconsin.

  6. My dear sister, I did not know that you were in the army. I have a new respect for you.🙂

Your story of the dead cockroaches lying on their backs remind me of the following verses.

7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.
8 Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. (Psalms 91:7-8)

This is exactly, as you stated, how the enemies will fall at our side. They cannot come near us because they are dead.

Hallelujah! Praise the Lord! Thank you, Lord!

I am having church right now and your post is the message from the heart of God.

I pray that the Lord will continue to keep and protect you as you do His mighty work. In Jesus name, Amen.

Thank you for blessing us with these powerful words.

  7. Hey Dawn, I left a reply but may have exited too soon for it to show up. Sorry! Anyway, I do love this post from you and find it to be very important to all of us believers at this vulnerable time. God is our protector, but we must put on that armor. Satan would love nothing more than to defeat us during this stressful time. Blessings to you, Dawn!

  8. Amen. Stay alert and stay alive. It’s important we stand on guard and be prepared. Just as Paul admonished us to with the whole armour. So that no aspect of our lives will be met with the enemy’s darts. Because all he needs is just a hole (an avenue), so we need the WHOLE armour.

    Thanks for sharing sis. ❤

  9. “Stay alert, stay alive” – each and every day this rings more true for the children of God. There are so many things to lull us asleep or take our attention from what we should be focusing on. I’m so grateful that Holy Spirit has a way of quickening us and that the Lord has a way of using different circumstances to get our attention.
