Forgiveness: Making Allowances For Others

Colossians 3:13 NLT, “Make allowance for each other’s faults, and forgive anyone who offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others.”

Remembering the forgiveness God has shown us through Christ, is definitely a way to stay humble and forgive others. He has forgiven us of so much, over and over again. Walking in humility means that we will be more willing to remember that everyone is human. Being human means we will all have bad days and sometimes make mistakes. When people do make mistakes, showing mercy and forgiveness to them will promote an atmosphere of love and peace.

Having a forgiving spirit keeps our souls healthy and strong. It also frees us up to keep moving forward in Christ. Unforgiveness holds us back and keeps us in bondage. We must push past the temptation to hold a grudge against others. Instead we must forgive, and then we too will be forgiven by our Father in heaven. (Matthew 6:14).

  1. Amen…. Beautiful and well said. I know I’m a forgiving person always has been. Some people say I’m too forgiving but in my eyes I forgive you but I don’t forget and I don’t hold grudges because it’s not healthy. The older I get I know that forgiving is apart of life. A few years back around 11 to 12 years I had a hard time forgiving a certain individual for how this individual did me so I was furious but I had to forgive and move forward. I gave it to God…. slowly God healed my heart each day… so this post has really made me think a lot about forgiving more…. Thanks Dawn

    1. Thanks Sherita for sharing this. It’s great that you’ve made a decision to approach life with a forgiving spirit. I know it can be tough depending on the situation but we must ask God to help us to do it because that is what He requires of us. I’m thankful God healed your heart and thankful you were willing to go through the process of letting Him do that. You’re very welcome! ❤️

  2. We must as believers make allowance to forgive as you have eloquently put sister. I heard two quotes that come to mine each time I think of having to forgive.
“Unforgiveness is like drinking poison yourself and waiting for the other person to die.”
“Unforgiveness is like letting someone live rent free in your head.”
As Jesus forgave, let us through His strength forgive likewise.

    1. I like those quotes! They are so true. I think we at times struggle because we feel the person we forgive is getting off free. But Jesus let us go free by dying for our sins. He paid the ultimate price. Forgiveness is a must! Thanks sis! 💜

      1. ❤️ True, and sometimes it’s easier to hold onto the hurt and resentment than letting go. Oh sweet Dawn, how we rob ourselves of peace and freedom when we do that. Plus….we don’t realize how this separates us from having sweet fellowship with Abba.
