Encourage and Build-Up

1 Thessalonians 5:11 NLT, “So encourage each other and build each other up, just as you are already doing.”

Everyone needs encouragement, now more than ever. We need to ask God regularly to keep us aware of those around us. A kind word or simple act of kindness, can make a big difference in someone’s day. Most of us are dealing with some type of pressure in life and keeping each other encouraged helps to make the load a little easier. We live in a world that is extremely connected, yet extremely disconnected. The availability of technology has been a blessing and a curse. Suicide is on the rise and many people feel isolated, even when others are around. We need godly wisdom to help us navigate the tough terrain. As we face these perilous times, be of good cheer because Jesus has overcome the world (John 16:33). Stay encouraged!

  1. “Connected disconnection,” that just about sums up our world today, Dawn. I get a report every week telling me my average screen time, and I’m often shocked at the number. Six hours a day?! I’ve seen as high as 8 hours a day—when I’m not working. Yet all the interacting with others via our screens doesn’t necessarily make me feel more connected. I wonder how embarrassed, and convicted I’d feel if God sent me a weekly “prayer time” report? How much “screen time” do I spend with Him?

    1. I think it’s so easy for the screen time to add up between the computers and the smart phones. A weekly prayer time report would be eye opening. The thought of that reminds me of the importance of being intentional in my time with God. Thanks David. 🤗❤️

  2. An encouraging word can make such a huge difference. You are so right that in these times people feel so isolated and loneliness is truly a problem for many. We have so much of a chance to connect per se through phone etc but that robs the face to face time that truly connects and bonds people.

    1. I was recently discussing with a coworker how the in person connections have greatly faded away. Although the technology is a blessing it’s still important to have the face to face when possible. Thanks Manu 🤗❤️

  3. Thank you for this needed reminder. We have so much power with our words and actions. We can build others up with a simple smile or kind word. And you are right. With the technology we have these days, we are growing further apart. I pray we are mindful of those we interact with, and use the Holy Spirit’s guidance to encourage others.

    1. So true that a smile or kind words can make a difference. I always appreciate that when I am out and about. Seeing that people still have common courtesies is a blessing. Thanks Bridget 🤗❤️

  4. Amen! COVID has done a lot of damage to our world. When the saints gather together it is a wonderful time of fellowship and this is how God wants us to live especially during this time. I am also grateful for this blogging platform that we can share and encourage each other in the Lord. Thank you, Dawn.

  5. Every word you wrote is so true! I’ve noticed how few people invite others over to their homes anymore. How few know their neighbors. I look around when I’m out shopping or whatever and wonder what other’s stories are. Even just a smile can mean so much to people – and most smile back. 🙂 You are so encouraging, Dawn, and I thank you.

    1. You’re welcome Patty and thank you! It is unfortunate how things have changed, I remember knowing everyone on the street growing up and now it’s not like that. I love home gatherings too but they are very scarce these days. Have a blessed week 🤗❤️

  7. Amen to that part “Technology can be a blessing or a curse” if we don’t watch it. There is so much social media competition and all going on that we lose sight of what really matters – connecting with people. 📍

Wishing you a great day sis. 🤗

  8. More than ever before, our words should be filled with grace and bring about edification. There is a lot going on with people already. We don’t know how far our wholesome words and conduct towards them help them to keep going.
