Song in the Night

Acts 16:25-26 ESV, “25 About midnight Paul and Silas were praying and singing hymns to God, and the prisoners were listening to them, 26 and suddenly there was a great earthquake, so that the foundations of the prison were shaken. And immediately all the doors were opened, and everyone’s bonds were unfastened.”

This is one of my favorite reminders that prayer works! Suddenly God can move on our behalf and bring change. Paul and Silas were in the midst of dire circumstances, but they chose to keep their focus on the goodness of God. Regardless of what our needs are, God is our Source. No matter what “prison” we find ourselves in, He can bring a suddenly into our lives and immediately set us free.

At times, finding the strength to pray and sing may seem difficult; however, when we stay close to the Lord, His power working in us, gives us the hope and strength we need to persevere in faith. His power gives us the ability to not give up. God will give us a song in the night.

Psalm 42:8 ESV, “By day the LORD commands his steadfast love, and at night his song is with me, a prayer to the God of my life.”

Like Paul and Silas, we can sing with joy knowing our God will move on our behalf when we cry out to Him. He will never forsake us.

  1. Hey sis,
have you heard of the “Hallelujah Challenge”?
Actually, the first one for 2022 just finished last weekend.
The Nigerian gospel artist Nathaniel Bassey (one of my favorites!!!) has been organizing it for a few years now and it holds online on facebook, youtube and instagram and thousands of people attend it.
Their key scripture is Acts 16:25-26 and they meet online at midnight Nigerian time and they sing praises to GOD and dance and pray.
You can even watch the replay on youtube if you like – it is very powerful and life changing every time! And it also confirms what you have posted, prayer works!!!
I totally agree with your post and I believe you will be blessed by checking out the “Hallelujah Challenge” – hope you will like it!
    GOD bless you!
    Your sister in CHRIST

  2. Prayer does change things. We cannot give up even though we might not see the effect immediately. This is one of my favorite scriptures to encourage us not to give up even in the midst of trials. Thank you , Dawn for this great reminder. What a blessing! May you have a great weekend.
