Continue On In Compassion

“The LORD is merciful and good; our God is compassionate.” (Psalm 116:5, GNT)

The Lord impressed upon me recently the importance of us as Christians having compassion on others. We never know what someone has been through or what they are currently going through. Everyone’s journey is unique, and the experiences we have had, have contributed to who we are today. Some are born into poverty, while others are born into wealth. Some are born into crime, while others are born into legitimate opportunities to excel. Some grew up in loving families, while others don’t know their parents at all.

Jesus encountered people from all different walks of life; however, He always showed compassion. One of my favorite stories is when He was with the woman at the well. He took time to notice her. He didn’t disregard her because of who she was or because of the life she lived. How often do we disregard others because they are not like us? How often do we reach conclusions about others that are based on our own viewpoints?

As representatives of Jesus, we have the privilege to show His compassion to others. It can be simple to slip into our own little comfortable worlds and forget those around us who are hurting or less fortunate. It’s important to be sensitive to God’s Spirit as He teaches us how to show compassion; because even the smallest act of compassion can go along ways.

  1. “It can be simple to slip into our own little comfortable worlds and forget those around us who are hurting or less fortunate” – this is absolutely true. I was recently convicted by Holy Spirit on this. Thank you for reminding us that “It’s important to be sensitive to God’s Spirit” – there’s no other way to live 👏🏽

  2. Excellent reminder to be compassionate to others. Everyone goes through their own experiences. We should not be so closed off and forget to see those around us and understand that they are going through something too.

  3. This is a good reminder Dawn. We tend to focus our compassion only on those we can relate to….its a psychological fact that if we cannot relate to something/someone, we are less likely to be compassionate. But Jesus could not relate to sin and sinners yet He was so compassionate to all. It’s a lovely reminder Dawn🎀🙏🏼💐✝️🤗❤

  4. Yes Dawn, this is so important!! I never understood the importance of showing compassion until I was broken. I’ve wrestled with the fact that many turn away from suffering and instead hold contempt not compassion. I’m thankful God showed me to be more compassionate. 🌷🌹😚🙏

  5. As one who’s been (through the Mill), and hurt to the core, I can I learned at that time how
compassion is so necessary and real when it comes to a Christian. I was so blessed that during my time of need, I had Christian people, who loved me, prayed with me, and picked me up literally when I was down…Yes, “Except I am moved with compassion, how DWELLETH THY SPIRIT IN ME?
In LOVE and in DEED, burning love is MY NEED, I KNOW I can FIND THIS IN THEE!

    1. Amen! And what a blessing it is that God allowed fellow Christians to be in your life who could pray for you and support you. I’m thankful that even though you have been through a lot and have been hurt, you have learned to walk in compassion. God bless you! 😊❤️

  7. You are right on target. I find that sometimes as Christians we tend to forget that we are all facing the similar attacks from the enemy and we focus only on our problems. But, as you said, we have to remember to be compassionate to others. Thank you, this is a great reminder.

  9. Amen! Dawn, this post hits the center of life’s target. God is love, and He shows us compassion over and over. We need to emulate the Father’s mercy and compassion more frequently in our thoughts, words, and deeds. God’s peace!
