The Lord Goes Before You

Deuteronomy 31:8 NLT, “Do not be afraid or discouraged, for the LORD will personally go ahead of you. He will be with you; he will neither fail you nor abandon you.”

I’ve learned and still learning that I don’t have to worry, because the things I spend time worrying about, God has already worked out on my behalf. I may not always see it right away, but that doesn’t change the fact that He has worked things out. He has a good plan.

When fear and discouragement try to creep in, we can remind ourselves of God’s continuous presence with us. He personally goes before us and paves the way. We just have to walk the path He has already laid out for us. Knowing that God has already gone where we are going is a comfort. It also gives us the confidence we need to move forward in faith. After all, we’re called to live by faith and not by sight, which of course is an amazing privilege (2 Corinthians 5:7). We’re blessed that there is so much more than what we see with our natural eyes. Living by faith draws us closer to the heart of God as we learn to trust in His faithfulness and wisdom.

Take heart! God will never fail you or abandon you. He is with you every step of the way, so remain faithful and obedient. He rewards us as we diligently seek Him (Hebrews 11:6).

  1. When we were in the homeless phase of our wilderness journey we called this God’s ‘checkmate’. Over and over again when we were worried and afraid because we could not see a way forward God had a checkmate that opened a small door which we could go through. After many, many such events we eventually found that worry was a complete waste of time. When we follow God with uncompromising faith he ALWAYS opens those doors for us that allow us to navigate the most impossible of situations. That is where faith and maturity grows and your character is formed into complete trust in His guidance and provision.

  2. In recent days, I have experienced this. I’m worried about my future (about my job). But reading this sharing from you, made me realize that God has provided everything and that His plan will always be on time (unspeakable). Thank you for sharing this sis Dawn!   3. God is with us, cares about us, and goes before us, I often “picture” Him holding my hand and walking with me. I agree Dawn, God is with us every step of the way. Blessings!🌺

  4. The picture of the Lord going before us tells us of His protection for us, His presence with us and power that goes with us to face whatever we need. I wish I would more readily apply it in my daily life.

  5. Thank you my sister for a beautiful and uplifting word in these times. The other day I had a patient at work, I just had on a regular surgical mask and after helping and all up in her face placing oxygen, blood and all that we suspected the dreaded disease. So I put on the appropriate N95 but I went off after I was done and quoted my scripture for God’s protection and felt well deep in the soul. Gabe is in NY working in the heart of the community hospital and I have to have the Father’s words to keep us. Some days I am led to text him a prayer. My aunt works in a nursing home and is currently home and completed week 1 of her quarantine as she tested positive … Your encouraging words are well taken.

  7. Sincerely, the best way to enjoy life, or live life to the fullest is to follow when God is leading… But no, fear and doubt will not allow some people enjoy life, and be suggesting one boring alternative.

      1. Most definitely! Last night I was trying to encourage my son by telling him exactly what you just said. He is getting a scholarship, but the amount is not enough for Embry Riddle but it is enough for a university in Puerto Rico. He doesn’t want to go to PR. so I was trying to tell him to allow the Lord to lead and do not hold tightly on to his personal preferences. Anywhere the Lord leads will be the best place for him.

      3. Puerto Rico is just half hour by plane. He had cardiac surgery in PR and he sees his cardiologist in PR. In my mind, going to school over there would be better for him except he would have to learn the language.

      4. A half hour isn’t bad at all. The language part would be a challenge, but he can do it if he desires to. I believe he would catch on being around it all the time.

      3. Yes, postgraduate. This semester I have two orientation classes that familiarize you with the university and the policies etc. After that the real classes start lol. I’m going online. So far so good.

  8. I’ve lived long enough to be able to verify every word you’ve said is true. Worry is worthless; God can be trusted no matter what. It’s as simple as that. (But I DO need and appreciate reminders that keep me focused!)
