Have No Fear Of Sudden Disaster

Proverbs 3:25-26 NLT, “25 You need not be afraid of sudden disaster or the destruction that comes upon the wicked, 26 for the Lord is your security. He will keep your foot from being caught in a trap.”

These verses always bring me comfort because there are so many unexpected and tragic things happening in the world today. The media is filled with depressing news reports and shocking headlines. It can certainly invoke feelings of fear and insecurity. Since life changing things beyond our control can happen suddenly, we may find ourselves feeling uneasy. However praying for those who are hurting due to tragedy and offering assistance when possible is how we can intervene to help.

God reminds us through these verses in Proverbs not to fear sudden disasters and destruction. He is our security as we live each day. Although there is no way to know what each day will hold, we can be at peace knowing the Lord is sovereign over each day and He will provide what we need and protect us.

Proverbs 2:8 NLT, “He guards the paths of the just and protects those who are faithful to him.”

Tragedies will sometimes happen because it’s a part of life. Of course knowing they will happen doesn’t make it any easier when they do, but focusing on the Lord keeps things in order. He cares deeply about every detail of our lives. We can share anything with Him in prayer. It’s important that we stay anchored in the truth of God’s Word, because having His Word hidden in our hearts, will strengthen us and keep our souls secure during trying times.

When life leaves us speechless, the Lord understands the cries of our hearts. We don’t have to always have the right words to say, or understand all the why’s. We’re human and He understands our pain.

I’m thankful that we have the peace and comfort that the Holy Spirit provides to us. He is our ever present Help in trouble (Psalm 46:1), and we can depend on Him to keep our hearts in perfect peace as we keep our minds stayed on Him.

Isaiah 26:3-4 ESV, “You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you. Trust in the LORD forever, for the LORD GOD is an everlasting rock.

  1. Beautiful message Dawn. It is easy to let fear take root when sudden disaster or bad news strikes. But we have to focus on God, he is in sovereign control and he hears and sees us.
A very apt reminder considering the news today.

  4. Great post, Dawn, especially in light of this tragic death of Kobe Bryant. Death is no respector of persons. It is such a terrible news I had to pause for a while to grieve and pray for the family. May God have mercy on them.

    1. Thank you! It is shocking news! My mom and I watched the reports most of yesterday afternoon and it’s still difficult to sink in. I can’t imagine what his family is going through. I pray God comforts them.

      1. You know Dawn, yesterday, I could not get the courage to watch the news. It was this morning that I read CNN report. It seems unreal. I do not like flying so whenever I am flying or my children I am in deep intercession. This incident reminds me of Myles Munroe’s death when his private jet crashed a few years ago. Let us continue to pray.🙏

      2. Oh yes Pastor Monroe, that was so tragic!! Sometimes I listened to him on YouTube. I don’t mind flying but I am very prayerful while doing so because I always remember 9/11, plus those planes are man made. Yes let’s keep praying.

  5. As I was walking back home, I was just reflecting upon how God is our comforter. We may never understand the causes of certain situations but we must pray and ask God for His peace. God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power, love and a sound mind 🙏🏿

      1. Dawn 🌻😊. No problem. We need to continually remind ourselves of what God says in His word.

Yes, I did have a nice walk even though the weather was cold. I enjoy walking because it’s refreshing and I believe that there are things your eyes will gaze upon while walking that one who is driving will miss because of their focus on the road. It’s a blessing and I’m grateful for the moments I get to take a walk.

  6. Ultimately we are safe in Jesus because of our eternal destiny with him, but in this life we will have troubles as Jesus said. Thankfully he also said he has overcome the world and is always with us 🙂

  7. Thank you for sharing this Dawn – it is so true. I often say that I truly don’t know how people manage to go through the hard and difficult times that we just don’t understand – without God walking with us. Blessings to you Lois
