Believing God For More

James 2:17 NKJV, “Thus also faith by itself, if it does not have works, is dead.”

As we grow in our relationship with Christ, we also grow in our knowledge of His love for us. Knowing that He loves us, should cause us to love Him and want what He wants for our lives. God’s ways and thoughts are higher than ours (Isaiah 55:8-9), so wanting what He wants will mean having to step out on faith and start believing Him for more.

Believing God for more will most likely be uncomfortable, because it often causes us to have to leave behind what is familiar in order to embrace the new thing God wants to do. It requires letting go of old thought patterns, old habits, certain activities or people that we are used to.

Embracing the new thing that God wants to do, may even cause us to experience rejection by people. However, rejection is a good thing when it positions us to experience the better things that God has planned for us. Simply living to please ourselves or others will get us nowhere. Continuously resisting the changes God allows to come our way, will not take us to higher levels in Christ.

Since we have entered into a new year, I know many of us are waiting in expectation for the great things that are ahead. With that, will come opportunities to learn to step out on faith, believe God for more, and take action. Whatever the more is that God has placed in your heart, don’t let fear of the unknown keep you from being obedient and taking action. Make your requests known before our all powerful God (Philippians 4:6). He is willing to give you what you need. Follow the little promptings the Holy Spirit gives you, because little things mean a lot on the journey to the bigger things He has in store.

God will strengthen your faith and take away any fears you may have as you believe Him for more. 2020 will only be a year of change, if we are willing to make the changes God requires of us.

If you would like prayer as you believe God for more, you can let me know in the comments or via email, I’m thankful to pray for you!

  1. “Follow the little promptings the Holy Spirit gives you, because little things mean a lot on the journey to the bigger things He has in store.” – that sentence really stood out to me today. Thank you for this lovely post 😊

  2. Please pray that God opens up new opportunities for service of Him in 2020 for me please. “Opportunity” is my word for 2020 because I believe God’s going to open up new opportunities for me to serve Him this year 🙂

    1. I prayed for you Robert that God will open up the right opportunities for you. I also wrote your name down so I can remember you in prayer. I am believing along with you that new opportunities to serve Him will come your way.

Proverbs 16:3 NLT, “Commit your actions to the LORD, and your plans will succeed.”

Happy New Year! Have a blessed 2020! 😊

  3. This post carried such great wisdom nuggets, Dawn. When we see God’s love, we certainly want to love Him more. I was also encouraged by these sentences, “Embracing the new thing that God wants to do, may even cause us to experience rejection by people. However, rejection is a good thing when it positions us to experience the better things that God has planned for us.” I’ve experienced in many ways rejections by others because they can’t comprehend why I stay still, or why I go but following God, requires pleasing Him first and only.

    1. I’m thankful those words encouraged you. Yeah rejection isn’t easy, I’ve experienced it too. When you’re doing your best to follow God, people won’t always understand (even other Christians at times) but as you said “pleasing Him first and only” is most important. ❤️

  4. Dawn, this is a comforting post knowing that we can face 2020 without fear because God is by our side. Thank you for your prayers. “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man/woman avails much.”

      1. You are a blessing. I am so happy you are one of the people I follow. When I started this page I had no preconceived ideas of the direction I wanted to go in, but my son who comes and reads incognito said, Mom your blog is about God, This was unintentional but I let the holy spirit do what it does… lead.

Psalm 32:8 NIV, “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will counsel you with my loving eye on you.”

  5. Thanks for this, Dawn. Such encouraging words! My prayers for 2020 I am praying for hearts and lives to continue to be changed at our youth group, as well as for the continued equipping of my own children, especially my oldest as he enters his last semester of high school.

    1. You’re welcome Marisa! The youth are definitely in need of our prayers. I prayed for your youth group, your children, and your son as he finishes his last semester. I’m believing with you that God will continue to touch their hearts and lives for His glory. I also wrote these requests down so I can remember them in prayer.

It seems like yesterday that my daughter was where your son is. Senior year was exciting! I’m sharing this verse that I hold on to in hopes kids remember what we teach them even when it seems they don’t remember. God is faithful to hear our prayers and watch over them.

Proverbs 22:6 ESV, “Train up a child in the way he should go; even when he is old he will not depart from it.”

Also I enjoyed your post today but the comments section is not working.

    1. Hi Carly! Thanks! You’re not alone because I’m learning to overcome fear too. I prayed for you that God will strengthen you so fear will not hold you back from accomplishing all He has in store for you. I also wrote your request down so I can remember you in prayer. Happy New Year to you!!

      Be encouraged my friend…

Isaiah 41:10 NIV, “So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

2 Timothy 1:7 KJB, “For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.”

  6. Whew! These words are straight from the heart of God, so Lord, we thank You!!

I’m often drawn away into thoughts of wondering if people really believe what the word of God says, or is it just another book, or a collection of stories to them. I believe it’s high time that our expectations become elevated to the point where we wholeheartedly BELIEVE what the word of God says to us and about us!

Satan, the enemy, the dirty-ole thief that he is, has robbed us of our belief in God’s word long enough! It’s time for all of our king Uzziah’s to die, so that we too can see the Lord high and lifted up as the prophet Isaiah did. I’m praying that our eyes and ears of faith be opened, and that our hearts of belief will be stirred and quickened to seek the Lord wholeheartedly, and take Him at His word..

    “Bless the Lord, O my soul;
And all that is within me, bless His holy name!
2 Bless the Lord, O my soul,
And forget not all His benefits:
3 Who forgives all your iniquities,
    Who heals all your diseases,
4 Who redeems your life from destruction,
Who crowns you with lovingkindness and tender mercies,
5 Who satisfies your mouth with good things,
So that your youth is renewed like the eagle’s….Psalm 103:1-5

    1. I think you’re right about the “wondering”. It’s easy to allow doubt to creep in if we’re not careful. If we believe the promise of salvation through Jesus is real, we also have to believe God’s other promises are real and available to not just some, but all who have given Jesus their hearts and are willing to believe. We don’t always know how God is working or how He will answer, but as you stated we must “take Him at His Word”. Thank you for the verses. I pray you have a wonderful weekend Anthony. 😊

  7. This blog was so good for me in many ways. I need to read it again and let those truths soak into my brain and spirit. I remember praying once for a breakthrough – for relief in a struggling situation – and God answered by taking a lot away that really hurt. But that change worked out to be for the best, of course, though even now it still hurts. Anyway, thank you for this very encouraging post. Blessings to you each day, Dawn!

  8. I wish you a happy new year dear dawn. They are blatant words that you write. But when Jesus said that he was with us to the ends of the earth, he never said that it would be easy.
I think it’s great that you offer prayer. Wow. Can you keep this time free in addition to your job? God bless you.

  9. Thank you, Dawn. It is so hard to set aside what is familiar and what we know… but something has to give and if we want a different outcome, we need to change the strategy. You are echoing what the Spirit has been saying this last month, so please pray for me that I will be bold but wise and discerning and not rash or reactive. Bless you. Love in Christ, from another Dawn

    1. You’re welcome Dawn! (It’s nice to meet another Dawn😊.) I prayed for you that the Lord will give you wisdom…

James 1:5 NIV, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

And I prayed that you would walk in the discernment of the Holy Spirit as He leads you daily…

Psalm 143:10, NIV, ”Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.”

I also wrote down your requests so I can remember you in prayer. May God bless you Dawn as you continue to fearlessly serve Him in 2020! Love you too!

Isaiah 41:10 NIV, ”So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God.  I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.”

  10. I read your about portion of your profile and I believe God is calling me to also write devotionals and help others with their faith. Of course, I’m new and still learning about blogging and love to help people. If you could pray that God opens up opportunities for me to help others and to help me with this if it is Gods will for my life.

    1. Thank you Pastor Clark for sharing your prayer requests with me. I’m thankful to join with you in prayer. It’s great you want to write devotionals to encourage others. I prayed the Lord will open opportunities for you to help others and help you to follow His direction with your blogging ministry. Blogging is a wonderful experience and a true blessing. I wrote your requests down so I can remember you in prayer. Let me know if there are any questions I can answer for you regarding blogging. These verses come to mind that God will guide you into all He has for you and teach you as you follow His path. I know opportunities will come your way as God leads you.

Isaiah 30:21 NIV, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, “This is the way; walk in it.”

Psalm 25:4-5 NIV, “Show me your ways, LORD, teach me your paths. Guide me in your truth and teach me, for you are God my Savior, and my hope is in you all day long.”

  11. Embracing the new thing God wants us to do may lead to rejection. I needed to hear that. I know I often get caught up in what people think of me, but I need to be more concerned with God is prompting me to do and following through with that no matter the cost. Thank you for this well-written post!

    1. You’re welcome Merry! Glad this helped you. It’s rarely easy when the Lord wants to take us to a new level but we can do it through Him. I’m learning too not to worry about people but instead to focus on the Lord. I pray God will continue to bless you greatly as you pursue His purpose for your life.

  12. Stepping out of the comfort zone hinders many Christians from fulfilling the great commission of teaching and making disciples. As an introvert, I struggle with this myself. This year will be different as I harness the technology available to share Christ with others and work with my weaknesses to make them not so weak, if that makes sense? Thank you for the inspiring words!

    1. You’re welcome Travis and thank you! Yes that makes perfect sense! We usually like to be comfortable, so stepping out is a challenge. It’s that way for me too. I’m thankful to hear you want to be stronger in this new year. I pray God empowers you to accomplish all He is leading you to do without fear holding you back. God bless you brother!
