Florida Memories: Sharing With My Sister

My big sister Angela who lives in Michigan came to visit me in October, a couple of weeks before I left Florida. She was in town for seven days, and we had a lot of fun! I wanted to share some pictures from our time together.

She flew into Miami International Airport, and we started our afternoon off with a short tour of Hollywood, which is where I lived for my first two years in Florida. The last two years I lived in Dania Beach, but still did almost everything in Hollywood, since it was really close.

We had dinner at a restaurant called GoBistro in downtown Hollywood. We both had the ramen which is delicious (I never eat the seaweed on the side of the bowl lol.)

Later that evening we made these Pumpkin Muffins from Michelle at Blessings By Me. They came out really good! They were very tasty and moist, and all you need is two ingredients!

We were praying for good weather with no rain, and God did bless us to get all of our outdoor activities done, without any interference from rain. One of those activities was bike riding at Key Biscayne. Key Biscayne is a little island near Miami.

After the bike riding, we overcame our fears by going to the top of the lighthouse located on the island. There were 109 steps to the top! It was kind of scary because we don’t like heights, but thank God we both made it to the top. I went first then my sister went.

I couldn’t let my sister leave without taking her to my favorite place in Miami, Vizcaya Museum and Gardens. It’s an old mansion that belonged to a man named James Deering. Vizcaya was his winter vacation home, where he would come to escape the cold winters up North. It was built between 1914 and 1922. It feels like another world when you step in. It’s worth a visit if you’re ever in Miami.

Miami is a very diverse place and is rich in food and culture. My sister enjoyed trying Cuban and Jamaican food for the first time. She loved the Jamaican Beef Patties! I had to take her back like three times to get one lol. I think I like the vegetable patties best. We also made it to Ft Lauderdale Beach (it was so hot!)

Although I was sad to see my sister go, I was thankful for the time we had together. I was also happy I only had four more days after she left before making my move to Virginia. Her visit was the perfect ending to my four year season of living in Florida. We shared talks, laughs, great food, time in prayer and God’s Word. It was a blessing.

Below is a picture of my view from the balcony at my apartment in Florida. I always loved looking out and seeing the trees and the lake, especially in the mornings before leaving for work. I’m thankful for all God’s goodness.

Psalm 126:3 NIV,“The LORD has done great things for us, and we are filled with joy.” 🥰

    1. Thanks Beverley! We really enjoyed ourselves. Yeah Florida is warm year round and that is nice. Especially during the winter months. But I’m adjusting to the cooler weather. It’s refreshing as long as it’s not too cold lol. Yes those patties are great!!! I’ll miss my boss bringing them to work all the time for us. 😁❤️

      1. Those patties seem to be everywhere. I hope you will find a location that sells them in Virginia. What is the weather like now in Virginia? Will it get colder? My daughter said that it is chilly in NY, but no snow as yet. She will be coming home for Christmas, God’s willing.

      2. I know they do have Jamaican restaurants here, I will have to find a good one. The weather is up and down. It was 75 two days ago, now it’s 53 today. But it’s not bad at all compared to NY or MI. I think it will get colder in January. How exciting that your daughter is coming home!! She will enjoy the warm weather I know.

      3. Yes, she is looking forward to it. There is nowhere like home. her brother is looking forward to see her also. 53 degrees is not too bad. We have been getting some rain and some nice breeze so it is a nice and cool 81 degrees.

  3. Wow. Lovely pics. And such a great time you both had. And the psalms 23 part got me 😂

I had to pray in tongues while trying to kill a spider yesterday 🙈. I hate creepy. 😁

Your house view is really beautiful. Another vacation readily made available every day. 😊

  4. Just thought I’d pop in and say hello from the northwest part of the states. I bet Virginia is beautiful. Never that far East.
I enjoyed those pictures and seeing your favorite places and food. How fun to be able to spend time with your sister. Thanks for sharing. Florida is soooo far away from Medford, Oregon, where I live. We sure could use some of that warm sunny weather. It’s been cloudy and rainy for quite some time. It is beautiful here in Oregon though. The Oregon coast has some outstanding beaches. Not as warm as Florida beaches though. God bless. ♡

    1. Thanks for popping in! 😊 I have never been to Oregon before. Virginia is a beautiful state and I’m thankful to be back here. Glad you enjoyed the pictures. I bet the beaches in Oregon are nice. I have not been out west except to the Seattle airport lol. I do see Medford on the map. It’s near the California border. I hope to go to San Francisco soon. Have you been?

      1. Yes, I have been there several times, years back when we lived in California. My husband and I moved to Portland Oregon back in 1997. We lived there for 6 1/2 yrs, then moved to Phoenix, Arizona. Lived there for 18 months, then moved back to the southern part of Oregon. The weather is nicer here than further northwest. It rains more up there. Beginning to think their weather system has moved it’s way down here. The sun revealed itself for about an hour today.
If you ever make it to San Francisco, visit Pier 39. That’s where Ghirardelli Square is. That’s where they make Ghirardelli chocolate. It’s very atmospheric. It’s changed alot though since we were last there. But it’s definitely an experience you’d enjoy. God bless!♡

      2. Nice! You’ve moved around quite a bit. I think the weather is getting to be unpredictable everywhere lol. I’ll be sure to visit Pier 39/Ghirardelli Square when I go. Thanks for the information. You have a blessed week. God bless you too! 😊
