I Will Give You Rest

Matthew 11:28 NLT, “Then Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.”

I woke up this morning with “rest” on my mind. I feel very thankful that as Christians we can find rest in Jesus. Life has its share of ups and downs, but through prayer we can always entrust our lives and the lives of our loved ones to Jesus. We are free to cast every concern we have upon Him (1 Peter 5:7).

I read a post by Crystal at Devotions of Grace called, “Who Needs Rest?”. It was very encouraging, reminding us that God will take care of us, and that it’s a good thing to rest in Him.

Today is a special day, 23 years ago my daughter was born. Although she’s away working in Spain, I’m thankful that as her mother I am able to pray for her and know that God will always take care of her. As parents we don’t have to worry about our children, we can rest in Jesus. Our job is to raise them, but once they grow up and go their own way, we should continue to pray for them and trust God to work in their lives.

I hope and pray that you will find rest in Jesus and give all you cares to Him. He is attentive to our prayers. No request is too big or too small. He will exchange your worries for His peace and joy, just trust Him.

  2. Dawn, just knowing that no matter the season we find ourselves, all we need to do is lean on Jesus. As we give our cares and burdens to Him, He replaces them with His peace and rest. I trust your Thanksgiving back with family was a joy ♥

    2. Dawn, I know you are so proud of your sweet girl! And she is gorgeous! Rest is exactly what we all need in Christ. We all get weary in our bodies and minds. When I take those heavy burdens to Him, He exchanges them for His peace and joy. I experienced this today at church.! It felt so good to let them go and just praise Him! 🙌🏼💜

  10. Knowing that we can lean on Him and find rest in Him is such a comfort.
    As my son grows older I am learning to lean on God and let go in a different way. It is such a different experience of a lesson of depending on God when it comes to my boy.

  13. She’s a beauty Dawn! I agree…we have to pray for our adult children and trust God to do what we cannot do. Gradually, I began to see how God’s grace and peace helps me to reconcile my changing relationship with my son. I realized that I had been measuring him by my standards and not the person God created and called him to be. If we understand our new boundaries in their lives, then letting go of our children becomes easier.

      1. Yes. The very thing I hate I practice (Romans 7:15). My family talks to me like I’m still a kid. I get reminded by my grandmother to drink water and get questioned by my aunts about my choices.

        I didn’t realize the “shift” sometimes I miss that little boy. But, He isn’t little anymore. He is a grown man and I can’t control him to live the way I think best.

      2. It’s definitely a transition to accept they are grown. They want to make their own decisions. It’s hard for us parents because we want to teach them all we’ve learned and save them from any drama. But they must learn on their own like we did. Prayerfully every now and then something we said will stick with them.

    Over three years ago, my daughter left for Peru to work for a year in a mission station. Little vulnerable children become followers of Jesus. I marvel at the way of my daughter.
    What is your daughter doing in Spain? In any case, you have photographed in this photo an absolutely radiant smile of your daughter. There is a deep sense of peace.

      1. Is your daughter then a language teacher? My daughter has made a voluntary social year in Peru. At the end of this time, she decided to study healing pedagogy. At the other end of Germany. She studied another semester in Bolivia. You know, as a family, we’ve gone through difficult times at the end of which I’ve gone. And I am pleased, how my daughter goes with all the difficult experiences with Jesus and continues to grow. Be blessed in Jesus dear Dawn.

      2. No, she is an auxiliary. She helps with English and provides support as needed. That’s great that your daughter is growing in Jesus. Her travels sound exciting! May God continue to bless you and your family. By the way, what language is your blog in? 😊

      3. Thank you for your answer. Is your daughter still studying? I usually write in German. I also translated my about page into English. My english is awful. My kids always used to enjoy themselves. In my schooldays, I first learned Russian and ended up with a little English.

      4. No, she’s not in school right now. In college she majored in Art History and minored in Spanish language and culture. So being in Spain will help her learn Spanish better. You’re English is really good! Blessings in Jesus Hendrik!

  25. Amen. Your daughter is beautiful. My daughter was 23 years old, December 1st. She did not want me to post a picture of her as I did my son. Our duty as parents is to pray for them and cover them under the blood of Jesus.
