Our Refuge and Strength

Psalm 46:1 NIV, “God is our refuge and strength, an ever-present help in trouble.”

So often the demands of life can leave us feeling exhausted and worn out in so many ways. With all that’s going on, it’s important to take time out daily to connect with our Heavenly Father. I love that He’s always there with us, no matter where we are. Knowing that He is our refuge and strength, who is ever present, brings hope and peace that is unexplainable. Being able to rely fully on Him in any and every situation brings us comfort. He is our Strength. When we are weak, He is strong.

The other day, I read this post by Chrissy @ Riverside Peace entitled Strength. It is a timely reminder that the Lord cares for us and gives us strength to keep going. (Thank you Chrissy for encouraging us.)

When I think of the blood that Jesus shed so that we could have the strength to persevere, my heart rejoices! I pray that you too would be strengthened, as the Lord’s joy and truth fill your heart.

  1. What a timely reminder for me. Just yesterday I was feeling overwhelmed with all that I have going on and realised that I just need to spend some extra time with God. And then I went for a walk with my dog and talked to God, praised him and listened to some worship songs and my world felt right again.
He is indeed our refuge and our strength. Blessing to you dear Dawn.

Hope all is going well with prep for your move which is soon.

  2. I’m so thankful ABBA is a refuge and strength. With all that’s been going on in my life, the hassles and bustles, knowing this I can find rest in Him is surely where my soul has been finding its delight. He also gives me His strength…whew! Hallelujah for that, especially seeing I’m weak and frail.

  3. Dawn thanks for sharing. Psalm 46 is one of my favorite passages. It is a great reminder of God’s love, his strength and protection. He is forever present, my strong tower and heavyweight champion. There is no need to fear, trust is God, he will see us through. 💜💜💜

  4. Busy is a word that we often use, too busy, so busy, overwhelm with being busy. We have to work, tend to our families, spend time with spouse etc..Even in the midst of all this we still must stay connect to our Father as you said Dawn. A few tips that I have to staying close to God even when life gets hectic:

Before I get out of bed each day I read the daily verse from my Bible app. Also, finding sometime during the day to ready my Bible even if it’s for 15-20 min. Spending time in the Word keeps us grounded and connected to God’s truth. Sometimes we need to get creative we can listen to the Word while we commute to work. If you are on your lunch break, read the Word, if you are waiting in the doctor’s office, read the Word, while on the toilet, read the Word.

Be careful of the voices you listen to, in the latter times some will depart from the faith, giving heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons (1 Timothy 4:1).

It’s important to pray throughout the day, prayer is communicating with God. I pray in my car, on my couch, in the grocery store. I pray for people whenever God drops them in my spirit.

We start to feel anxious or overwhelmed when we stray away from taking time to stop and even briefly ask for His help, to receive His peace.

    1. This is awesome Kim! Thanks so much for the tips. I too enjoy spending time with God at lunch. I used to listen to sermons a lot driving to work but have gotten away from it. I need to start again. I listen mostly at my desk during the day while working.

We do need to be careful what teachers we listen to. Many are not preaching according to scripture. I agree prayer throughout the day is a must! Work is crazy and prayer helps us. Thanks for being so faithful to share the things you’ve learned. It’s very helpful.

  5. “When we are weak, He is strong” This remind me of one of your post that entitled, “Power in weakness.” God is the everlasting power and strength that can sustain us even in our darkest and weakest moments. Thanks for sharing. Have a blessed weekend.

    1. Oh wow! You remembered! Thanks! I often think how blessed we are that He can sustain us through anything. You’re welcome. Have a blessed weekend too. The movers just left so I’m happy that part is over. 😁

      1. I was going to ask you about the moving, but I forgot. It is just amazjng that you find the time to blog when you are in the middle of moving. I hate moving! My last move was last year August to my present apartment. It was hard. I vowed the next time I have to move, I will sell or give away everything at the present apartment and only move with a few clothes and a few personal articles. It will be a minimalist move🙂 At least now you can focus on the unpacking one step at a time.

      2. I have missed a few days blogging here and there due to the move, but tried to keep it up as much as possible. But as I was packing I was wishing I had sold some stuff. I did donate some items. Moving is hard work! I wish I could become a minimalist. I’ll be with my mom until settled. Once I’m settled and have my own place, then will come the unpacking. 😊

  6. Love this share sis and the comments were graceful too.

I was talking with a friend and stated “If not for God, I could have lost my sanity in most of life’s happenings”. God really is our advantage in life, He is our dwelling place – our utmost covering.

    Such a blessing.

    1. Thank you! I feel the same. What you said reminds me of Psalm 91:1, “Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.” God bless you little sister! ❤️
