Just Believe

John 20:29 NIV, “Then Jesus told him, “Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.”

Over the last couple of weeks, I’ve felt God impressing upon my heart to “just believe.” Sometimes fear can keep us from believing. We fear that things will not work out the way we want them to. We may even have fears that God will not answer our prayers. I once had a friend tell me that she decided she wasn’t going to believe good things would happen, that way she wouldn’t have to be disappointed if things didn’t work out. Needless to say, she spent many days feeling frustrated and hopeless.

We were created to look beyond ourselves to Someone greater. Being able to believe in Jesus and His promises, keeps us full of hope and joy. Jesus said that we are blessed when we believe. As Christians, we have put our faith in Jesus, so we are professing that we believe He is who He says He is. Therefore we must also believe that He will do what He said He will do.

I feel a sense of peace when I decide to “just believe” and trust God to work out all the details. However when I try to put all the pieces together and figure out the unknowns, I feel fear and anxiety. Resting in the Masters goodness and believing He will supply our every need brings contentment. No matter how out of control things may seem, choose to “just believe”. When you do, the Lord promises that you will be blessed.

1 Timothy 4:10 ESV, “For to this end we toil and strive, because we have our hope set on the living God, who is the Savior of all people, especially of those who believe.”

  2. I choose to believe. It is safer than unbelieve. The truth is the more i believe God, the more calm i get and this season for me needs lots of believing

  7. Great posture big sis. It is remarkable how having faith in our Father tends to ease away the doubts, the fears, the anxieties. Even though we don’t know what He’s doing or will do, we have confidence that whatever He chooses to do will be for our good, even though on the surface it may not readily appear to be.

  8. We do ourselves a great disservice when we choose not to have faith just to avoid disappointment. I’m not surprised that your friend wound up unhappy, for disappointments are part of life. We need to exercise our faith, and have confident hope that as we stand, pray, and believe, that our Mighty God is at work on our behalf.   9. Believing in Christ makes things easier for us. There are many times I feel dismayed, but when I think of God and put my trust in Him, everything becomes easy for me. I feel a type of calmness I can’t even imagine.

  11. Prayer. Why is it that when prayers don’t come the way we expect them to we get disheartened. We must always remember that Gods understanding is greater than ours. That being said we must except that sometimes the answer to our prayers is NO.

  14. True words, Dawn. I find that whenever I surrendered my problems in the hands of Jesus, that is when He solved them. Before we can even approach God we must first believe that He is a rewarder to those who seek Him. Thank you. Blessings.

    1. You’re welcome. In Christ we don’t have to worry. He always has things worked out for us. We have to also at times forfeit quick worldly rewards to wait for His. Blessings to you!

  16. We were just talking about this in Bible study this weekend. Our verse was Mark 9:24 (I believe, help my unbelief) and the question was “what’s the difference between believing in God and believing God”. It was such a thought provoking question! To me believing in God means knowing He’s there and believing God means taking Him at His Word.

    1. That sounds like it was an interesting bible study! I agree with you. Many believe God exist but don’t believe what He says. I like that verse. I have said that to God, I believe, help my unbelief. I’m glad He is merciful to us.

  20. Amen 🙏🏿. Choosing to believe is a choice we have to make. No one can force us to believe. As believers, we have this precious gift of Jesus. No one can take Him away from us. Even when times get tough, we have this Name we can always call upon. There are so many things that have been planted around us that we can either choose to focus on but I’ve made up mind to believe in the Lord. There is no one like Him. The sweetest name I know 🙌🏿😊

  21. Absolutely. Those words. Trusting can be tough if we continue to see our strength, our own abilities and capacity. But when we choose to let go and let God, we begin to find grace to trust Him – arms wide open for Him to lift us above all that we see as fear.
