Colossians 4:2 NLT, “Devote yourselves to prayer with an alert mind and a thankful heart.”
Yesterday I had to go visit the GYN for my annual exam. It’s a very busy place, so when I go, I always know that I’ll be waiting at least an hour before I see the doctor, but this time my wait ended up being an hour and a half. I waited one hour in the main waiting room, and thirty minutes in the exam room.
All the women I saw were anticipating the arrival of a little one. I thought to myself, at this point in my life, I wouldn’t want to change places with them. But I also remember when I was there like them, expecting my daughter, and how exciting it was as the time for her arrival drew closer. It’s hard to believe how fast the years have flown by.
I was happy when I thought my name was called, but I was a little preoccupied on my phone, so I verified with the medical assistant at the door that she did say, “Dawn”. I was glad she said yes when I asked her. When I got into the exam room, she gave me a pink gown to change into.
As I was sitting on the exam table waiting for the doctor to arrive, I noticed the gown was a little flawed in some places. All of a sudden, I begin to think about all the women who had worn that gown before me. I felt the Holy Spirit leading me to say a prayer for them.
I thanked God for all the wonderful blessings that He had bestowed upon them. I also realized that some of the women who had worn the gown had received a life changing diagnosis. Some had struggles with infertility. Maybe even some were victims of rape or some other type of abuse that had altered their lives. Buried in the hearts of the women who had worn that pink gown, were many joys, but also many pains.
In all the years I have been going to the GYN, I cannot recall ever being lead to pray for other women while waiting in the exam room, but I’m thankful I had the opportunity to do so. I’m thankful God used my prayers to help bring comfort and healing to women who I will never know personally.
My doctor, who is originally from the country of Jamaica, is a very intelligent and personable lady. I always enjoy talking with her. She has a way of helping you to get over the fact that you had a long wait. She’s really good at what she does, so I assume that’s why she has so many patients. I’m thankful I found her office, and had her as a GYN doctor while in Florida. God always leads us to the right places with the right people.
We can’t physically be everywhere or know everything, but through prayer, God uses us to make a difference. Our prayers can reach all the way to places we can’t go. And they can help change the lives of people we may never see.
1 Thessalonians 5:17 KJB, “Pray without ceasing.”
Wow! This was very beautiful Dawn! This was very encouraging and just reveals how much God wants to use us and reach others ♥️🙌🏽 thank you for sharing.

Thanks Lisa! One of my past doctors suggested a partial hysterectomy awhile back. The current doctor suggested fibroid embolization. I have another ultrasound scheduled in a couple of weeks to see how the fibroids are doing. Thanks again. I will pray for you too. 💕

Blessings little sister for being sensitive to the leading of the Holy Spirit 🙂
I hate going to doctors. I will try praying for others next time I go, but I try to avoid doctors.

I don’t like going either, plus it cost so much, even with insurance. There are so many prayer needs. I will try and remain mindful too. ✝️

This is absolutely true. Our prayers can go/do far beyond what we can go/do. I find this scripture about prayer from James 5:16b apt …
“The earnest (heartfelt, continued) prayer of a righteous man makes tremendous power available [dynamic in its working]”. (Amplified)

Amen 🙏🏿. God is Good. This reminds me of something I’ve been doing for a few months now. Where I work, there are little children that come shopping with their parents. A few months ago, the Lord laid it upon my heart to pray for the little children and their parents that they may know the Lord. I love children so much and it has been a blessing the little children that God leads me to while at work. Though I work at a retail store and still yet trusting God for better, when I think about these moments, my heart is filled with joy. Thank you for sharing your experience Dawn 😊.

That’s wonderful Karen!!! 🤗 I’m so thankful the Lord is using you in this way. I know your prayers are making a difference in the lives of these children and their parents. I used to work retail and it’s nice to meet different people. I always try to remember that as we obey the Lord, He takes us higher. You obeying Him in this manner where you work now is drawing you closer to Him, and preparing you for even greater opportunities in your future. God bless you and you’re welcome! Thank you also for sharing your experience!! ✝️❤️

Dawn,
This post went totally in a different direction I was expecting and I love that! As I sit waiting for Zach’s dental appointment I finally got the chance to read this and my my my – I am blown away. Thank you for being sensitive to the Holy Spirit. During you 1.5 hours wait you could have chosen to be agitated and miserable and opted to not even give a second thought or be available to what Holy Spirit had to say…yet you did and you are showing us that anywhere we go we can always pray, especially for others who have gone before us or will be coming after us. The middle position posture of prayer. Girl! I love it. Love it! Love it! This testimony you have shared will be etched in my mind whenever I am wherever and need to wait. Thank you!

You’re welcome! As you mentioned, being available to the Holy Spirit is so important. I’m learning that God shows us how to pray without ceasing through moments like this. I’m thankful He uses us in unexpected ways. It was a long wait, but learning to be patient is a good thing especially when God uses the waiting for good. Thanks little sister! ❤️

Reblogged this on Christian Mommas and commented:
This is what being a Christian Momma looks like, seeing people through God’s eyes and carrying God’s presence everywhere we go. Not because we are perfect, but because we serve a God willing to work through imperfect vessels. Enjoy this great post by fellow blogger, Dawn @drawingclosertochrist.com
