Is It A Facade?

Proverbs 17:1 NIV, “Better a dry crust with peace and quiet than a house full of feasting, with strife.”

When I read this verse, it reminded me right away that things can appear to be one way on the surface, but can actually be something else in reality. People can appear to have it all and be on top of the world, but on the inside they are discontent, hurt, and empty.

We live in a world where it’s easy for people to put up a facade, but their reality is less than pleasant. Not only is it easy to put up a facade, but doing so is also celebrated. The more perfect a persons life appears on the outside, the more accepted they feel. But then, they must work tirelessly to maintain that illusion of happiness, so they can continue to feel accepted.

This verse tells us that a lifestyle of peace is better than one that invites strife. Sometimes less is in fact more. Regardless of what we have or don’t have, our main goal should always be to honor God, and keep His commandments.

If our focus is not primarily on the Lord, things will get out of line. Our focus will then be on ourselves, other people, and the ongoing pursuit of material things, which will ultimately lead to pain.

I pray that as Christians, our main focus will be on having a lifestyle of love and worship toward the Lord, as we pursue the purpose He has for us. May we also share His unconditional love and acceptance with those around us, because true acceptance is found in Jesus Christ.

Ecclesiastes 12:13 NIV, “Now all has been heard; here is the conclusion of the matter: Fear God and keep his commandments, for this is the duty of all mankind.”

  1. Appreciation of what you have is important and know that God knows what’s best so if you don’t that much of money still appreciate because probably too much money would bring you more problems that will make you to not enjoy it…💲😂

Reminds me of Proverbs 30:8-9 NIV, “8 Keep falsehood and lies far from me;give me neither poverty nor riches, but give me only my daily bread. 9 Otherwise, I may have too much and disown you and say, ‘Who is the Lord?’Or I may become poor and steal, and so dishonor the name of my God.” ❤️

  5. I think of Paul who was a success in the eyes of his fellow Jews but left it behind to follow Jesus. I love what he wrote in Philippians 3- I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus

  7. Thank you for your blog. Smiling faces oftentimes is an attempt to hide the emptiness. We do have to keep our focus on God. We are in perilous times and we need his peace , his strength , guidance and his word. Thank you so much for sharing!

  8. I love this post. I keep telling the youth in my church that they should not be deceived by what they see most time on social media. Because social media can make people delusional. Even though I’m on social media, I try not to get carried away by the extravagant lifestyle or fake lifestyle people portray on social media. When we have Jesus we learn to be contented with what we have.

    1. That’s great that you are encouraging the youth. They really need it. They are growing up in confusing times. On social media most people only show the good stuff. Which leaves others feeling like their lives don’t measure up. We must cling to Jesus for our peace and contentment. Thanks little sister! ❤️

  10. As I read this I began thinking about vulnerability. The scripture is replete with examples of the entire lifestyle of fellow witnesses of the faith. The Lord has showed us the good, bad and ugly of folks who professed their faith in Him. These are examples for us that we should not attempt to achieve the “status quo”, but with God and the safety of our brothers and sisters, be open and candid. In fact, we are even told to confess our faults one to another. Another thing I’m thinking about is the word Jesus used to describe the Pharisees – hypocrites which the original translation means “actors” or people who where “masks.” May we not be classified in that category ever, big sis. We will be women of integrity!

    1. We should be willing to be candid, and we should ask the Lord to help us to do so. Thanks for giving us the translation of hypocrite. I never knew that it meant actors, or people who wore mask, but that makes so much sense. Yes!! Let us have a reputation of integrity! Thanks little sister ❤️

  13. Amen. So True. 🙂 This verse came to my mind: “Better to live on a corner of the roof than share a house with a quarrelsome wife.” Proverbs 25:24 I think this came to my mind because strife comes from jealousy of the things we want but don’t have. If we are content with what we have we will appreciate all that God has given us, including our spouses even if they aren’t perfect. We ourselves aren’t perfect either. A calm home is a wonderful thing. 🙂

    1. Thanks Tina! Thanks also for sharing that verse! I agree, being jealous causes strife. Contentment makes us thankful. Yes, a calm home is a blessing. My mom always says a peaceful home is so important. ❤️😊
