Our Motives Matter To God

Proverbs 16:2 NLT, “People may be pure in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their motives.”

Outwardly someone can look and sound like they are trying to please God and help others, but God can see their heart. He can see the motives behind each and every action. Praying and asking God to help us to be aware of the motives behind our actions is beneficial. Every act of kindness should be guided by His love. Having an ungodly desire for attention and credit can do harm to ourselves and others.

Unfortunately I’ve seen people manipulate situations just so they can get all the glory. We don’t have to drive ourselves crazy worrying about rewards. When we operate with pure hearts, God will bless us by making sure we receive the rewards we deserve.

Even in our prayer life, God wants our motives to be pure…

James 4:3 NIV, “When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”

The will of God should be our primary concern. When we ask, we should ask according to His will. When we delight ourselves in Him, He promised to give us the desires of our hearts (Psalm 37:4).

Love should always be the motivation behind the things we do, because love never fails (1 Corinthians 13:8).

  3. Great post, we should always be aware of what lies in our hearts. Sometimes we start with the right intentions but along the way we can begin to enjoy the credit that comes along and we have to lay that at Gods feet and pray that our motives remain true and pure.

    1. Thanks! Yes it’s easy to get off track so we must keep our eyes on Him. When I see myself accomplishing things I have to be diligent about laying it at His feet as you mentioned.

  10. This is truly a soul searching post, big sis. Before we even perform the act, our Father is looking at our motives. May we be sober and diligent in all our endeavors. May we always have on the Mind of Christ 🤗❤️

    1. Thanks little sis. I’m glad He can see our hearts and correct us when needed. I pray we as Christians would have pure motives as we live for the Lord each day. Yes, we definitely need the mind of Christ. ❤️

      10. Aha! I love the cinnamon flavored ones. Once I tried that, I could ever go back to the original. You can have them with tea (I dip it in mine for about 5 seconds), with butter, cheese, PB and/or J…list is endless girl. Check out your local Walmart too. You shouldn’t pay more than $2 for a pack. Anymore is a rip off – just saying. Bread – check Lauderhill Mall or a Golden Crust. Come to think of it, they may have the crackers too…I’m so excited for you Dawn. Give baby girl some to walk with on her rendezvous too 🤗🤗
