Happy 4th of July!

Psalm 67:4 ESV, “Let the nations be glad and sing for joy, for you judge the peoples with equity and guide the nations upon earth. Selah”

I was born and raised here in America and it is the only country I’ve ever lived in. I was recently reminiscing with my daughter about how in elementary school every morning we would recite the, “Pledge of Allegiance” and then sing, “My Country ‘Tis of Thee”.

Pledge of Allegiance:

“I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.”

My Country ‘Tis of Thee (we only sang the first verse):

My country tis of thee,
Sweet land of liberty,
Of thee I sing.
Land where my fathers died!
Land of the Pilgrim’s pride!
From every mountain side,
Let freedom ring!

Life was definitely much simpler back in my elementary school days, and there have been many ups and downs. I don’t know what it would have been like to be raised in another country, but America is where God allowed me to be. So I am thankful.

America, just like other countries is far from perfect, but I do thank God for the opportunities that I have had here. I thank Him for the people I have met here that have shown me love and touched my life in someway. America is a beautiful place, but even more beautiful is the God that has kept me and my family safe, and provided for us as we have lived here.

Happy 4th of July!!! 🇺🇸🙏🏿🙏🏽🙏🙏🏼🇺🇸

  1. Happy 4th to you big sis! Though I wasn’t born or raised here, my son was and so I get to experience the best of both worlds as you may. This country does have amazing opportunities for those who dare to dream and achieve 👏🏽

    1. Oh wow for some reason I thought Zachery was born in Jamaica. But yes, there are opportunities and I pray God will continue to open doors up wide for us! Thanks, Happy 4th of July to you! 🇺🇸

      1. By the way, we used to always celebrate the Jamaican Independence Day at work with a big Jamaican potluck and singing of the Jamaican national anthem but last year the lady in charge decided not to do it. But the food was always so delicious 😋.

      2. Sorry 😂😂😂 Now I have not tried porridge yet but my coworker said her mom’s is really good. She was born in the Bahamas but her mom is Jamaican. I hope they bring the potluck back!!!!

      3. Giggles! Yessssss…and if she doesn’t, tell her to make you some porridge – you won’t discriminate what kind – cornmeal, banana, plantain, hominy – you want some. I warn you – it is filling and afterwards, you may end up experiencing “ethnic fatigue” 🙈

      4. Yes I’ll tell her! Lol. But I’ll just have to drink coffee to get over the “ethnic fatigue” lol. I had a Jamaican patty yesterday. I love those!

      5. Giggles! Zach eats them with cheese, he splits the patty in half, put the cheese in the middle (over the meat) and pops it in the microwave. We get the Golden Krust patty from either Walmart ($0.96) or Dollar Tree ($1).

      6. Well typically when I am at large family get togethers, it is the typical American barbecue food. But my daughter is vegan so we are having vegan burgers later on. I am eating healthier these days especially with her around.

      7. Ah! I don’t think I’ve been to many if any 4th celebrations. Barbecue does sound good now too. Can you tell I enjoy food? Lol
Bless God for Shalenah! Helping her mom to stay on track. I’ve never had vegan burgers but I’m sure she makes them delish…May I ask what caused her to switch dietary ships?

      8. Just to be healthier overall and to save animals. She’s also into protecting the environment. She’s teaching me a lot for sure. Vegan food is really good. We try new vegan restaurants a lot and the food she cooks is really good 😋

      9. Those are good reasons. When my mom watched “What the Health?” – she immediately gave up meat (minus fish). I’m glad you have company to try the vegan way, Dawn plus a great chef too – now that’s a bonus. I may need to go on the Southwest website to find a ticket down to partake of her scrumptious cuisines.

      10. Trust me, my daughter has shown me so many of those videos about animal cruelty and the negative effect meat has on our bodies. I like fish and occasionally eat chicken but for the most part that’s it. I try and eat meat on the weekends only (until those patties show up at work lol). Lol. I think you’d like her dishes 😋

      11. Yesssss….the documentary mom watched showed some too. Lord, help us to eat right (as I pray this here the thought, Deandra, you have lentil chips to eat- ugh- how wretched I am🙈). I’m sure I would, especially knowing the exposure you all are having and no doubt her love for diversity.

      1. That is interesting you mentioned that, Dawn. I have been thinking about Niagara Falls quite a bit today. We love Florida, and the whole country of the United States, and stand with you in prayer.
