In Jesus Christ We Gain

1 Timothy 6:6 NIV, “But godliness with contentment is great gain.”

I have come to realize that I am most content when I choose to simply trust God. Trusting in Him, brings me to a peaceful place that is free from anxiety and fear. Both anxiety and fear cause us to take our eyes off of Christ, and instead put them on the things or people that we cannot control.

Jesus definitely set the ultimate example of contentment for us. He chose to walk in the purpose God had for him. He didn’t allow himself to be distracted by what was going on around him. As a matter of fact, when his parents became anxious because they could not find him, he said…

Why were you searching for me?”….“Didn’t you know I had to be in my Father’s house?” (Luke 2:49)

He definitely knew how to keep his eyes on God and not get sidetracked. We must do the same. The truth of God’s Word will keep us growing in godliness. Godliness will lead us to contentment because our hearts will become more and more thankful for who God is and all that He has done. We will see things from His perspective, instead of the worlds.

In Christ we gain, because nothing can compare to the privilege of knowing Him…

Philippians 3:8 NIV, “What is more, I consider everything a loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whose sake I have lost all things. I consider them garbage, that I may gain Christ.”

  1. So true, Dawn. I know that whenever I take my eyes off Jesus, things begin to fall apart and I start to feel lost and hopeless. He makes everything right.

  3. So true. Gratitude definitely keeps my focus on Him. I was just journaling about the fact that trusting is an ongoing work in my life. Even though He has shown Himself strong over and over, there are times when I have to rededicate myself, plans, and so forth back to Him. He alone is worthy of our trust and our praise. Dawn, thank you for sharing this encouraging word ♥

    1. You’re welcome Jacquie! And yes, trusting is a process for all of us, but He is indeed worthy! I just recently tried to get back into journaling. It’s very helpful. Thanks ❤️

  4. This is a truly profound post big sis! Keeping our eyes on Christ reveals that He is all we need. Not money, not fame, not health, not a spouse (though these are all good) but I discovered just yesterday (or should I say rediscovered) that with all the issues I face, what/who I really need is Jesus and having His assurance, makes everything all better. It’s like a child who climbs into their parents’ bed during a storm. The parents can’t stop the storm but the comfort of being in their presence, does wonders! Thank you for reminding us of the comfort we gain through Jesus.

    1. You’re welcome little sis! Actually driving to work this morning, I was remembering how I went through years of thinking marriage was what I needed to fill my voids. Marriage never did bring me contentment. Only growing in Christ gave me what I was looking for. Nothing can compare to Him! ☀️

      1. Your Welcome Dawn! And thank you as well. Reading your posts daily gives me life. It’s getting me closer to God and his son Jesus. Yes we all go through things but we just have to put it in his hands and pray about it. I’ve learned you can’t keep harping on things let him take care of it bc sometimes it’s not in our control.. ❤️❤️
