Wait Patiently for the Lord

Psalm 27:14 NLT, “Wait patiently for the Lord. Be brave and courageous. Yes, wait patiently for the Lord.”

Patiently waiting on God takes courage. Deciding to put ourselves in His hands and trust Him is a very brave thing for us to do. Waiting patiently is not something that the world encourages us to do, but it’s worth it.

God knows what is best for us. Waiting allows Him to work in our hearts so we can learn, grow, and become more like Christ. It also allows Him to work in our situation to bring about what is best for everyone involved.

Waiting can be especially difficult when we are dealing with difficult people, who are making life miserable for us. But keep praying! I’ve seen God bring about change many times as a result of diligent prayers. I’ve seen Him move wrong people out, move right people in, and grant favor to His children!

Be brave. Be courageous. Wait patiently for our Mighty God. He hasn’t forgotten about you or your situation. He is working all things together for your good when you love Him and are called according to His purpose (Romans 8:28).

While you wait, just keep doing the things that you are able to do. Remain thankful and prayerful. Listen for God’s voice, and trust Him to move on your behalf to bring the needed changes in His time and His way.

Bring God glory while you wait!

  1. Thanks for the timely message and reminder. Am currently in a waiting season

    In the gospels we see Mary and Martha while they were waiting on Jesus to come and heal their brother, Lazarus….when Jesus finally shows up, He was accused of taking too long.

    God always has good reasons for making us wait. Waiting is a part of life and one of God’s tools for developing people. The Bible is full of stories of people having to wait on God, such as Noah, Abraham, Moses, Joseph, David, Daniel etc…waiting builds my patience and increase my faith in God. Teach me Lord how to wait on YOU

    1. Thank you Fay! I really appreciate those in the Bible who waited patiently and set such a great example for us. Waiting is usually not easy but like you said, God has good reasons. Waiting does indeed build our patience and faith.

My sister I am led to share some of what waiting on the Lord did for a poor country girl who felt like waiting was a waste of time…during one of my waiting period I started complaining and questioning the Lord asking if the waiting would be until life everlasting l but the Lord spoke directly to me and told me to rest in him and trust in him and gave me the strength to wait on him. Of course the waiting wasn’t easy but it was worth it. God set me up big time.

        My testimony is that waiting built my intimacy and dependence on God. It also transformed my character.

        In essence “WAITING” rubbed off the rough edges of my life.

        NB: Spiritual transformation does not take place when we get what we want. It takes place while we are waiting…transformation happens in the waiting room.

      3. James 4:8 says Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. We must draw near to God! When we do, He is near!
        There can only be intimacy with God when we are in good fellowship with Him through obedience.
        As you grow to trust Him and believe what He says in His Word more and more, your love affair with Him will become increasingly fulfilling.
        You can’t develop an intimate relationship with anybody in a crowd. You can know about them, but you get to know people by spending time with them. The same is true with God.
        Some ways that help me to become more intimate and dependent on my Heavenly Father include:
        Reading His word daily in a place of solitude
        Relationships require communication. Praying – communicate my heart to Him, share my thankfulness and my requests and ask God to reveal Himself to me in extraordinary ways. I give things over to God to handle, through prayer. I resist worry and instead trust that God will be faithful to His promises. But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you. Matthew 6:33
        After praying I spend time just listening to what God has to say
        Spending quality time mediating and memorizing scripture, praying the scriptures.
        I seek wisdom through prayer, thus depending on God to direct my path. Proverbs 3:5-6 I read, study, and obey the word. The Bible is God’s Word and so I delve into it and respond to its truths.
        Tell God about the parts of me that have been difficult for me to receive or accept and ask Him why I struggle to do so.
        Placing stickers on my wardrobe, refrigerator and dresser mirror entitled: No Complaining Today, Give Thanks Always. Doing this helps me to maintain a positive attitude and gratitude for all my daily blessings. Thinking about all the provisions God has given to me and thank Him for them draws me closer to God.
        Discussing and sharing God’s word with others in small groups etc.
        Act in faith no matter how dismal my situation appears and leave the consequences to God.
        The more continual our communication with God, the deeper our intimacy with God and dependence with Him will be

      4. Thanks so much for the thoughtful response! You have given many great points. As you mentioned solitude with God is crucial. We get to know him through our time alone with him. I have been going through that personally over the last few years. I also like your point about listening after praying. That takes discipline but I am working on it.

      1. I get angry at myself for not being more tolerant of other people and their situations and attitudes. Sometimes I think my feelings are normal but, as a Christian, I think I could work towards being more understanding.

      2. Dealing with difficult people is hard. I’ve had to grow in this area, especially over the last several years. But don’t beat yourself up, just repent and ask God to help you do better. Sometimes your feelings are justified, but like you said, as Christians we must still do our best to be gentle and show God’s love.
